Archaeologist Karl Schiller concludes that the mythical "Ring of the Nibelung" is in Dracula's castle in the Carpathian Mountains. Karl shares his discovery with his twin brother Franz, a gambler, and tells him about an ancient amulet that will protect him from vampires, if they do exist. Franz decides to get ahead of his brother, steals the amulet from him and sets off on his own to Transylvania to get the golden ring. Franz spends the night in a village tavern near the castle and forgets the amulet. Soon he finds himself in the castle and meets the Countess de Vries, who turns out to be a vampire.
